Elluminate Session Types

Two types of Elluminate sessions are available. The type you choose for your class depends on the frequency and number of Elluminate sessions.

Meetings

Meetings work best for one-time or sporadic Elluminate sessions. For example:

  • You want to have a session during the third week of the semester and another session two weeks before finals.
  • You are using Elluminate for student presentations. Small groups of students need to attend one of 4 sessions.
  • You are having a guest lecturer once during the semester.

Elluminate meetings are joined by clicking on links. OTEL provides Moderator (teacher) and Guest (student) links to instructors; instructors distribute the Guest link to their students.

If you record an Elluminate meeting and want to view it, you will need to contact OTEL for the link to the recording.

Classes

Elluminate c lasses work well for regularly scheduled Elluminate sessions with a stable group of participants. For example:

  • Your class meets online every Monday from 5-6 p.m. to discuss weekly readings.
  • Your class meets each week on Tuesday from 2-3 p.m. and Friday from 9-10 a.m. to discuss the muddiest points from meetings.
  • Every three weeks on Thursday night from 9-10 p.m., you hold a an introductory session for a new module in your course.

Elluminate classes are joined by logging in with specially created user names and passwords. Instructors must provide a class list with student first and last names and UIS email addresses. OTEL then creates the Elluminate class sessions and emails the user names and passwords to the instructor. Instructors must distribute user names and passwords to students.

If you record an Elluminate class session and want to view it, you simply log in to Elluminate and access the recording.
