Preparing to Teach in Elluminate

  • Explore Elluminate’s Virtual Classroom Design Template for ideas about how to organize your session and suggestions for what to include in the session so you can get the most of the virtual classroom experience.
  • When connecting to Elluminate, make sure you are using a wired Internet connection. Elluminate requires a stable, higher-bandwidth connection that wireless is rarely capable of supplying.
  • Join the Elluminate live session before the scheduled start time.
  • Load presentation slides [Elluminate demo; PDF]
    • For more detailed information on loading PowerPoint presentations specifically, see this PDF:
  • Two important points to consider regarding slides for presentation:
    • select "Follow Moderator" box to the right of the pull down menu for whiteboard content; otherwise, participants will not move with you through the slides
    • if you want to disable save-print function in the recording be sure to protect whiteboard content
  • Open applications you want to share [Elluminate demo; PDF]
    • if you plan to share websites, have the sites bookmarked in your browser
  • Load multimedia files before students join [Elluminate demo; PDF]
  • Conduct an audio check using the audio wizard [Elluminate demo; PDF]
    • See audio best practices as defined by Elluminate in this PDF
  • Solicit feedback from your students to help you improve content and delivery for your next course by using the polling feature [Elluminate Demo; PDF]
