Second Life is a large, multi-user, three-dimensional online virtual world. To participate in Second Life you need to design an online identity called an “avatar.” The avatar is a representation of yourself when you interact within a Second Life world. Your avatar is able to explore areas and features made by other people or by institutions, or you can create a new environment for yourself.
Social interaction is one of the most important features of Second Life; you can use a variety of means to communicate with other avatar’s including, instant messaging, gestures, or chats. You can also have experiences that are impossible in the real world, from flying anywhere in Second Life world’s to soaring through the solar system to altering gravity. What you do depends on your curiosity, creativity, and desire to seek out information and that makes it a perfect tool for education.
