Blackboard
Blackboard is the most popular course structure interface at UIS. Blackboard has an easy to navigate interface for students and a simple file upload process that requires no knowledge of HTML coding or web-based formatting. However, if you are comfortable with HTML you can use the programming language to structure and enhance your postings within Blackboard.
Blackboard offers 24/7 access to your course.
Student Registration
Students register for online classes through the UIS Admissions Office. Application for admission to UIS is a requirement for all courses at UIS. The time it takes to be admitted to the University varies for each student depending up prior education, residency, and other factors.
A Blackboard account will be automatically created at the time of registration for any student enrolled at UIS. The global Blackboard user database is updated daily from registration information. Once the global account has been recreated, it is automatically enrolled into the proper Blackboard course sites based upon registration records.
UIS uses your UIS Campus NetID username and password to create your account and access to Blackboard. To look up or establish your UIS Campus NetID and password visit http://www.uis.edu/cts/netid.
Students are notified by the instructor
Students enrolled in a Blackboard class will be automatically added to the course roster. If you are an online student, approximately one week prior to the start of a new semester, you should receive specific welcoming information about your course from your instructor. Though you'll be able to login to Blackboard, you will not be able to login to the specific course site until the instructor has made the course available to users or when all courses are automatically opened the first day of the semester. The instructor determines when courses are made available to the student.
Access
UIS student and faculty access all Blackboard courseware through the same portal---http://bb.uis.edu
Login to Blackboard by pressing the User Login button under the large Blackboard logo on the left side of the screen. Login with your UIS Network Identification (NetID) username and password. If you experience problems logging into the Blackboard server, visit http://www.uis.edu/cts/netid to check or establish your UIS NetID and password.
